Chuadanga records 43°C

Since the countrys independence, the third highest temperature of 43 degrees Celsius was recorded in Chuadanga on Monday.

The second-highest temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius was also recorded in Chuadanga on May 21, 2014.

Chuadanga and Jashore are enduring a very severe heatwave since the beginning of April.

Khulna, Mongla, Satkhira, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kumarkhali districts endured the highest temperature of above  41 degrees Celsius on Monday.

On Monday, the countrys highest temperature of 40 degrees Celsius was recorded in Rajshah, Ishurdi, Bogura and Badalgachhi.

The countrys highest temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius since independence was recorded on May 18, 1972.

On April 17, 2023, the countrys third-highest temperature of 43 degrees Celsius was recorded in Ishwardi, Pabna.

Weathermen said that the same temperature was also recorded in 1995 and 2002.

On Monday, 40.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in the capital, the highest of the season.

Weatherman AKM Nazmul Haque extended the  heatwave for 30 straight days, the longest for Bangladesh.

He told reporters the heatwave  is likely to continue.

In 2014,  heatwave persisted for 26 consecutive days from April 5 to 30.

In 2016, the heatwave continued for 25 consecutive days from April 6 to 30.

In 2023, it happened for 23 consecutive days from April 13 to May 5.

"This region has had high temperatures for many years because it is situated next to Indias Bihar and West Bengal, where temperatures soared to 44 degrees Celsius on Sunday," meteorologist Omar Faruque told reporters.

According to the Met Office, a very severe heat wave swept acrss Jashore, Chuadanga, Pabna and Rajshahi on Monday.

Dhaka division and parts of Khulna and Rajshahi divisions endured severe heatwave on Monday while Barishal, Rangpur and Chattogram divisions and Mymensingh district experienced mild to moderate heatwave.

The Met Office forecast that the heat wave was  likely to continue from 6:00pm on Tuesday.

Rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds are likely to occur at one or two places in Sylhet division with hailstorms at isolated places on Tuesday,  the Met Office predicted.

The weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies elsewhere in the country.

Day temperatures may rise slightly and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged in the country today.
 
Due to increase in moisture incursion,  discomforts may persist, said the Met Office.

Meteorologists forecast rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hailstorms at isolated places on Wednesday.
 
The weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies elsewhere in the country, said Weatherman Md Tariful Newaz Kabir.

He said the heatwave is likely to continue.

The High Court on Monday ordered the government to close primary and secondary schools, and madrasas till Thursday due to the ongoing heatwave.
