Man beaten to death by cousins over land dispute

A man was beaten to death reportedly by his cousins over a land dispute at Shailkupa upazila in Jhenidah district on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam Batul, a resident of Sheikhpara village under the upazila.
Quoting locals, police said there had been a loggerheads between Shariful and his maternal cousins over a piece of a land. An altercation broke out between them on Monday afternoon, which led to a fight in the night. At one stage of the fight, the cousins hit Shariful with a stick, leaving him critically injured.

He was on the way to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital when he succumbed to his injuries.

Shailkupa Police Station officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam Chowdhury said being informed, police visited the spot and kept the body at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

However, no one made arrested yet in this regard as the all accused went into hiding after incident, but efforts are on to arrest the involved persons, added the OC.
