Wahidul Islam, Registrar of Dhaka District, was sent to jail by a Dhaka Court on Tuesday in a case filed over amassing illegal wealth and hiding information about his wealth.
Judge Mohammad Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judges Court passed the order as Wahidul surrendered before it and sought bail in the case.
Anti-Corruption Commi-ssion (ACC) Public Prosecutor Mohammad Rezaul Karim Reza confirmed the matter to the Daily Observer on Tuesday evening.
On Tuesday was fixed for hearing on charge sheet acceptance. The court took the charge sheet into cognizance for beginning of the trial in the case.
The ACC filed a case against Wahidul Islam with its integrated district office in Dhaka on September 21 last year.
As per allegation, Wahidul Islam gave false information about his wealth worth Tk 94.5 lakh and amassed wealth worth Tk 1.21 crore beyond his known source of income.
The case was filed against Wahidul after the Supreme Court on September 21 last year cleared the way for the ACC to take appropriate legal action against him in connection with the corruption allegations.
