PABNA, May 4: The third transmission line is ready to supply power to the countrys first nuclear power plant, presently under construction at Rooppur in  Ishwardi Upazila of the district.

The 89.92 kilometre (km) 400kv single circuit transmission line from Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) to 400/230kv grid substation in Bogura was commissioned on Tuesday (May 28) last.

The transmission line has been in operation since the trial opening. Due to this, warning notices were issued for some areas in Pabna, Natore, and Bogura   districts.

The government is preparing to inaugurate the countrys largest power plant by the end of the year.
Transmission lines are being prepared in that light. The power of RNPP 2400mw capacity will be transmitted through a total of six transmission lines.

The third transmission line built at the site was commissioned. Authorities said, the transmission line built for Dhaka, Gopalganj, and other parts of the country by crossing the Padma and Yamuna rivers is almost ready.

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) spokesperson ABM Badruddoza Khan said, such warnings are always given before commissioning any new high-voltage power line.

Warned areas included Pakshi, Salimpur and Muladuli unions in Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna,  Gopalpur, Nagar, Majhgaon and Baraigram unions in Baraigram Upazila of Natore District, and Nandigram and Bhatgram unions in  Nandigram Upazila of Bogra District and Jamgram Union in  Kahalu Upazila.

This new transmission line is passing over Nazirpur Union of Gurdaspur Upazila and Chamari, Kalam, Chowgram and Ramanand Khajura unions of Singra Upazila.

The notification said, the newly constructed line will be operational round the clock from 11 am on Tuesday. In this situation, it is requested to refrain from risky work including climbing the tower of the newly constructed 400kv transmission line, tying cattle, drying clothes by tying ropes on the tower and planting bamboo and big trees under and beside the line.

Also, everyone has been requested to stay at a safe distance (23 metres on both sides) from the 400kv transmission line. PGCB authorities will not be responsible if anyone gets electrocuted by coming in contact with these high-voltage transmission lines or  towers.

According to the PGCB website, a 7 km river crossing line of 400kv double circuit over River Yamuna, a 2km long river crossing line of 400kv single circuit over River Padma, and 230kv double over river Yamuna to transmit power to Rooppur nuclear power plant. A 7km long line of the circuit is being constructed.

PGCB informed, 26 per cent of progress has already been made in the construction of these lines.

PGCB Managing Director AKM Gauch Mohiuddin Ahmed said, "We have overcome the major challenges of constructing the river crossing line. Besides, the transmission line after crossing the river has also been constructed. Now we expect the construction of the river crossing lines to be completed quickly."

Spokesperson Badruddoza Khan said, apart from the river crossing lines, there are three transmission lines on the land, which are now complete by 100 per cent. One of these is the 230kv back feed line. This line has been constructed for the power that will be required during the commissioning of the power plant.

Once the centre is operational, electricity can be transmitted through this line. Besides, the construction of a 230kv line from Rooppur to Baghabari in Sirajganj has been completed. The latest Rooppur to Bogra line has been completed.
