Schoolgirl burnt in Bogura explosion dies

A schoolgirl who sustained burn injuries in a fire from an explosion at a house in Bogura city on Sunday night (April 28), died at a hospital in the capital on Saturday night (May 4).

The victim Tasnim Bushra, 14, a seventh grader of Maltinagar High School and a daughter of Ali Hossain, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 9pm on Saturday.

Earlier, at least four people were sustained burn injuries in an explosion at a house in Malatinagar Dakshin Para of Bogura city around 9pm on Sunday night.

The injured were Rebeka Sultana, 40, wife of Rezaul Karim, daughter Sumaiya Aktar, 14, Jim, 16, daughter of Rashedul Islam, and Tasnim Bushra, 14, daughter of Ali Hossain Babu.

On information, firefighting units from Bogura Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed there and doused the blaze, said Assistant Deputy Director Abdul Jalil.

They suspected that the explosion might have caused due to gas cylinder explosion but three gas cylinders of the house were found intact, he said.

All of the injured  were admitted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where the physicians referred Bushra to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery as her condition deteriorated. Bushra breathed her last while undergoing treatment there.

Superintendent of Police in Bogura Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty said police have found gas cylinders, compressors, and phosphorous used in making firecrackers. In primary investigation it appears that all of this resulted in the explosion.
