A court in Joypurhat has sentenced five people, including husband and wife, to life term imprisonment for killing a man over an extramarital affair 19 years ago.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 Judge Md Nurul Islam passed the verdict on Sunday (May 5) in presence of the convicts.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each, in default, they have to serve two more year in jail.
Public Prosecutor of Joypurhat court Advocate Nripendra Mondal said that the convicts are –Shahadul Islam, resident of Borail Sheikhpara village of Khetlal upazila of district, and his wife Marium Begum Rekha, Abdur Razzak, son of Enari Sardar, Mojahar Ali, son of Rais Uddin, Rezaul Haq, son of Shamsuddin.
According to the prosecution story, Marium Begum had an extramarital affair with Nurunnabi Mondal, son of Altab Mondal. According to the pre-plan, Marium and her husband in cooperation with three other convicts had killed Nurunnabi and buried his body in an old grave.
As he did not returned home, family members of Nurunnabi searched him in different areas after the evening on November 14, 2005.
On November 20, based on information that a body was found in a grave in Hatshahar area, family members, with the help of law enforcers and local public representatives indentified the Nurunnabi’s body.
The next day, father of the victim Altab Mondal filed a murder case with the Khetlal Police Station.
On June 30, 2007, Asaduzzaman Khan, inspector of district detective branch of police, submit a charge sheet before the court.
In 19 years long trial, the court recorded the depositions of nine witnesses in the case and passed the verdict on Sunday.
