Pregnant woman, son killed as tree falls on house

KISHOREGANJ, May 5: A nine-month pregnant woman and her minor son were killed when a tree fell on their house in Karimganj Upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The accident took place in Niamatpur Hajipara Ghonar Bari Village of the upazila at around 11:30 pm.
The deceased were identified as Roop Tara, 45, wife of Abdul Qaiyum, a resident of that village, and their son Taijul Islam, 5.

Police sources said that a tree fell on the tin-shed house of farmer Abdul Qaiyum during thunderstorm at around 11:30 pm. Abdul Qaiyums nine-month pregnant wife Roop Tara and her son Taijul died on the spot after the house collapsed. Roop Taras mother was also injured at that time.

Officer-in-Charge of Karimganj Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
