Sundarbans fire: 5 acres of land barricaded, water sprinkling continue

Five acres of land in the Sundarbans have been barricaded to prevent the fire from spreading. At the same time, forest department has started investigation to find out the reason behind the fire.

Chief Conservator of Forests Amir Hosain Chowdhury said these to journalist on Sunday night after visiting the fire burnt areas.

A seven-member probe body has been formed to find out the extent of the fire and the cause of the fire.
Amir Hosain disclosed these at a press briefing in Khulna on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, Fire Service members and forest department are jointly continuing sprinkling water where they found the smoke. They started spreading water through pump machine from 7am on Monday.

"Water will be sprinkling keeping this situation under observation for the next two days. There is no reason to fear for now because the fire line is being cut," he further said.

Twenty groups of different professions are working to control the fire. The blaze has been brought under control on the upper part of the ground, Amir Hosain added.

The fire that broke out in Amarbunia camp of Chandpai range under the Sundarbans East Forest Division in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district was under under control on Sunday. But the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said that the fire fighters will continue their activities for the next few days to extinguish the blaze completely.
