Four killed, 23 injured in road accidents

Four people have been killed and at least 23 others injured in separate road accidents in four districts - Jamalpur, Joypurhat, Shariatpur and Bagerhat, in three days.
JAMALPUR: A truck driver was killed in a road accident0 in Madarganj Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
The accident took place in Ghughumari area of the upazila at around 7:05 am.
The deceased was identified as Saidur Rahman, 40, son of Kandu Mia, hailed from Gopalganj Village under Saturia Upazila in Manikganj District.
Police and local sources said Saidur Rahman was heading towards Madarganj Upazila of Jamalpur from Aminbazar in Dhaka carrying coal on his truck in the morning.
On the way, the truck overturned after losing its control over the steering and hit a roadside tree in Ghughumari area at around 7:05 am, which left him dead on the spot. At least 18 people including the helper of the truck Enamul Haque were also injured at that time.   
JOYPURHAT: Two persons were killed and four others injured when a tractor rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The accident took place in Dadra Pakarmatha area on the Joypurhat-Akkelpur road of the upazila in the evening.
The deceased were identified as Jiten Barman, 4o, a resident of Salua Village, and Idris Ali, 41, of Boro Manik Village under Panchbibi Upazila in the district.
The injured persons are: Sunil Barman, 45, son of Utin Mandal; Ismail, 43, son of Asir Uddin; Azizul Islam, 45, son of Tansen; and Alamgir, 40. All of them are residents of Salua Village in Panchbibi Upazila.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station (PS) Humayun Kabir said a tractor hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw carrying day-labourers, who were returning home in Panchbibi Upazila of the district after harvesting paddy from Raninagar area of Naogaon District, in Dadra Pakarmatha area on the Joypurhat-Akkelpur road of the upazila in the evening. Jiten and Idris died on the spot and four others were seriously injured at that time.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene.
However, the injured were rescued and taken to Joypurhat 250-bed Adhunik Sadar Hospital.
Necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
SHARIATPUR: A journalist was seriously injured in a road accident in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The accident took place in Dasarta intersection area of Sadar Upazila at noon.
Injured KM Raihan Kabir is the district correspondent of the Daily Jugantar.
Local sources said Raihan Kabir was returning home at Palang Bazar in the district town from Bhojeshwar area under Naria Upazila after his work at noon riding on a motorcycle. On the way, an easy-bike hit his motorcycle in Dasarta intersection area of Sadar Upazila, which left him critically injured.
Injured Raihan Kabir was then rescued by locals and taken to Hazi Shariat Ullah Clinic, from there he was shifted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka following the deterioration of his            condition.
BAGERHAT: A young man was killed after being hit by a truck in Rampal Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The accident took place in Khanjahan Ali Airport area on the Khulna-Mongla highway of the upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Hanif Sheikh, 22, son of Shariful Sheikh, a resident of Ujalkur Village under the upazila.
Quoting locals, Rampal PS OC Somen Das said Hanif Sheikh was returning home from the upazila town after finishing his work at noon riding on a bicycle. On the way, a Mongla-bound goods-laden truck from Khulna hit the bicycle near Khanjahan Ali Airport area of the upazila, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.  
However, the law enforcers are trying to identify the killer truck and arrest its driver, the OC added.
