The Election Commission (EC) postponed Jamalpur district's Sarishabari upazila parishad election, scheduled to be held on Wednesday.

The election officer of Jamalpur district and also returning officer Mohammad Shaniazzaman Talukder confirmed the information around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon, adding that the EC has issued a letter in this regard.
The letter reads that the commission (EC) scrapped the candidacy of chairman candidate Md Rafiqul Islam on Sunday for violating the electoral code of conduct.

Later, he filed a writ petition in the High Court against the cancellation and the court on Monday upheld his candidacy.

The EC moved the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court that gave no order yet. In this situation, the commission took the decision to postpone the election, reads the letter.
