Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Utsab, one of the biggest celebrations in the country of Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore's works, will start on Thursday (May 9).
On the occasion of Nobel laureate Tagore's birth anniversary, Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sanstha (BRSS) has organized the 35th edition of the festival at Matri Bhasha Institute in the capital.
Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury will inaugurate the three-day long carnival and eminent cultural personality Ramendu Majumder will be present as a special guest.
According to the organizers, the 35th edition of festival is dedicated to renowned singer Sadi Mohammad who passed away recently. BRSS will also felicitate renowned Rabindra expositor Professor Dr Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya for receiving the prestigious Indian fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri.
Around three hundred artists from different cultural platforms of Dhaka, Chattogram, Sherpur, Faridpur, Jashore and Sylhet will perform in different sessions. Singers of Sangeet Bhaban, Shurer Dhara, BAFA, Boitalik, Bishwabina, Robiraag, Shurotirtho are scheduled to perform group songs while artists of Nrittanchal will perform Dance on Tagore music.
