Nine killed in road accidents in five districts

At least nine people were killed and four others were injured in road accidents in Faridpur, Dinajpur, Narsingdi, Narail and Cumilla districts on Saturday.

In Faridpur: Three members of a family, including a father and his son, were killed and in a crash between a truck and their motorcycle in Hamerdi area of Bhanga upazila in Faridpur district around 11am on Saturday.

The victims were Kashem Shikder, 40, his son Morsalin, 8, and brother Nazmul Shikder, 37,-- all were residents of Koyaldia village under Moksedpur upazila in Gopalganj district.

Bhanga Highway Police Station sub-inspector Abdul Baki said Kashem along with his brother and son were heading towards Faridpur riding on a motorcycle. The accident occurred when a truck coming from opposite direction collided head-on with their vehicle, leaving the child Morsalin dead on the spot.

Locals rescued critically injured Kashem and Nazmul and took them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

In Dinajpur: A tank lorry ploughed into a roadside shop at Kauga intersection in Sadar upazila of Dinajpur district at about 5:15am on Saturday, leaving two people dead.

Farid Hossain, in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said the deceased were Azhar Ali, 60, a security guard of village Biswanathpur and Rana, 25, of village Kauga in the upazila.
Police also arrested the driver of the tank lorry and his assistant.

In Narsingdi: Two people died and three others were injured when the bus of Hanif Paribahan crashed into the Sylhet-bound microbus in front of Dream Holiday Park in Choitab of Panchdona upazila of Narsingdi district at around 5am on Saturday.

Ilias Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Itakhola Highway Police Station, said two persons --Abdus Salam, 43, driver of the microbus, and vocalist of musical band Odd Signature Ahasan Tanvir Pial, 26, died on the spot and three others injured.

The injured were taken to Narsingdi district hospital.

In Narail: A college student was killed in a road accident on the Narail-Fultola regional highway in Kararbil area of Narail Sadar upazila of the district around 7am on Saturday.

The victim was Mamun Samaddar, 22, son of Bablu Samaddar, a resident of Raghunathpur village under the upazila. He was an honors student of Narail Government Victoria College.

Mohammad Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Narail Sadar Police Station, said the tragic accident occurred when Mamun's motorcycle rammed into a bicycle. Mamun died on the spot after fell from the bike and the bicylce rider Kajem Ali was critically injured.

In Cumilla: A truck driver died after his truck hit another car from behind on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Chauddagram upazila around 3am Saturday.

SM Lokman Hossain, officer-in-charge of Miabazar Highway Police Station, said the deceased, Sagar, 35, died on the spot.

His body was recovered and will be handed over to his family after legal procedures, added the OC.
