The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway will launch a special train on Chapainawabganj-Dhaka route from June 10 for the fifth consecutive time to transport mangoes from the Rajshahi region to different districts in the country.
This time, the special train ‘mango special trains’ will depart from Rohanpur railway station at 4pm and will reach to Dhaka at 2.15am with stoppage at 14 stations via Padma Bridge with facilities of transporting mangoes safely with low-cost and less-time.
Railway Minister Zillul Hakim revealed the plans for the train while addressing at a seminar on 'Mango transportation to different districts from Rajshahi division through railway' at the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office on Saturday.
Consisting of six luggage vans, the special mango train will have the capacity of carrying 172.98 tonnes of mangoes.
It will cost Tk 1.43 to carry a kilogram of mango to Dhaka from Rajshahi, and it is Tk 1.48 from Chapainawabganj to Dhaka, the rail minister said at the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office.
The special train will stop at 14 stations, including Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, Abdulpur, Ishwardi, Poradah, Rajbari, Faridpur, and Bhanga, along the way, Zillul Hakim said.
The minister Zillul Hakim also assured that all the problems will be solved for making the railway for mango transportation popular.
He said they have taken steps for signing memorandum of understandings with some of the courier services related to mango transportation by the railway.
Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dewan Muhammad Humayin Kabir chaired the seminar while Rajshahi-22 MP Md Shafiqur Rahman and Natore-1 MP Md Abul Kalam were among the other guests.
