Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said on Saturday that accounting system needs to be reformed to meet the requirements of international standards and development partners.

Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion he said, "In line with the ever-changing global management, economic challenges and the excellence of information technology, besides the conventional compliance and financial audits, performance audits, IT audits and environmental and climate change audit reports should be prepared."

The discussion was organised at the CAGs office to mark the 51st founding anniversary of the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and a three-day (May 12-14) special service programme beginning across the country today.

Chaired by CAG Nurul Islam, President of Standing Committee on Public Accounts Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Secretary of Finance Division Md Khairuzzaman Majumdar were special guests.

The minister said, "The accounting system needs to be reformed to meet international standards and the needs of development partners.

In the meantime, a modern structure of accounts has been prepared in collaboration with the Audit and Accounts Department.

Transparency of the financial sector will be ensured through preparation of up-to-date financial adequacy accounts.

Mahmood Ali said, "If auditing is more effective, efficient and effective use of the governments financial resources will be ensured. The Ministry will provide all-out cooperation to enhance the service capacity of CAG to complete quality and real-time audits in line with time."

He said, "Audit management and monitoring software has been launched by bringing audit management to digital platform, emphasis should be placed on proper implementation by ensuring its excellence over time. Online management has already been introduced replacing the old method of communication between the auditor and the audit firm."

Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said that more than four crore audit reports have been disposed of. More than Tk 3,000 crore have been collected through this. But its a matter of worry that around 235 audit reports have been tabled in Parliament but not discussed.
