A Bangladeshi national has been shot to death reportedly by Arakan Army inside Myanmar along Naikhongchhari border area in Bandarban district on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam, son of late Badiuzzaman, a resident of Bamhatichhra area in Naikhongchhari Upazila Sadar.
The incident occurred inside Myanmar territory near pillar No. 48 in the Phultoli border area in Naikhongchhari Sadar union on early Sunday.

Additional Superintendent of Police in Bandarban Raihan Kazemi confirmed the information.

According to locals, Bangladeshis often cross the border to smuggle foods and necessary goods to Myanmar rebel group Arakan Army. Like everyday, Abul Kalam along with some others entered about two kilometers inside Myanmar through the area called 'Chelir Dala' across the 48th pillar of the border to supply food on Sunday morning.

On the way to back home, Kalam locked into an altercation with a member of the Army on duty over the evasion of subscriptions. At one stage of the argument, the member shot Abul Kalam on his head, leaving him dead on the spot.

Nurul Absar, Chairman of the Naikhongchhari Sadar Union, said that the deceased’s brother went there to bring the body.

Meanwhile, BGB sources said that they heard about the matter and legal actions will be taken upon investigation.

A few days ago, five Bangladeshis were injured in a mine explosion near the Naikhongchhari border while bringing cattle from Myanmar.
