A court in Dhaka has granted bail for the 12 students, who were arrested while arguing with police in a demonstration demanding the rise of the age limit to 35 to apply for government jobs, on a Tk 2,000 surety bond.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed's court pronounced the verdict on Sunday, said Shahbag Police Station sub-inspector Nizam Uddin Fakir.
The students who got bail are Md Mamun Rashid Ratan, Md Russell, Humayun Kabir, Manik Das, Al-Amin, Sheikh Farid, Azam Mohammad, Md Saddam Hossain, Abdul Hakim, Rima Akter, Sharmin Akter Dristi, and Fatema Akter.
Earlier on Saturday, the demonstrators claimed that some 15 to 20 of the agitating students were arrested from the city's Shahbag area. Later, they gave an ultimatum for releasing them within 10:00 pm.
A case was then filed against 400 to 500 unknown people mentioning the names of 14 people with Shahbag Police Station.
