Two girls 'commit suicide' over SSC result

Two examinees of Jhenidah and Noakhali districts allegedly committed suicide on Sunday after failing in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.

The deceased were Nupur Khatun, 15, daughter of Asadul Islam Mondal, of Binni village under Harinakundu upazila in Jhenidah district, and Tanjina Akter Jhumi, 16, daughter of Md Abdul Karim, of Sallya Ghtaiya village in Noakhali municipality.
In Jhenidah, Nupur, who appeared in the exam from Durlabhpur High School, locked herself in her room after hearing the result in the afternoon. She then, hanged herself with the ceiling of the room, confirmed Harinakundu Police Station officer-in-charge Ziaur Rahman.

Additional police were sent to the spot to take legal actions, added the OC.

Meanwhile, Tanjina Akter Jhumi attended in the examination from Kalitara Muslim Girl Academy in Noakhali district town. Around 11am on Sunday, she came to know that she failed in Mathematics. After hearing that she also handed herself with the ceiling of her room while her parents were busy in work.

Hearing screams of the deceased mother, locals rushed there and informed police.

On information, police recovered the body and handed over to the family members upon their request, said Sudharam Police Station officer-in-charge Meer Jahedul Haque Rony.
