83.04pc pass SSC, equivalent examinations

Girls outshine boys in all boards, none passed from 51 institutions

The pass rate of students in this years Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations under 11 education boards is 83.04 per cent, according to the results published by the Education Ministry on Sunday.

The pass rate was 80.39pc last year.

Pass rates of both male and female students have increased this time.

Some 81.57pc of the total male students passed the tests while it was 78.87pc last year.

Of the female students 84.47pc passed the examinations whereas it was 81.88pc in the previous year.

However, girls are ahead of boys both in pass rate and Grade Point Average (GPA) achievement this year, not only in the nine general education boards but also in Madrasa Education Board and Technical Education Board.

A total of 2,013,597 examinees appeared in the SSC and equivalent examinations this year. Of them, 1,672,153 students - 806,553 male and 865,600 females -- passed the examinations.

A total 182,129 students achieved GPA 5 in this years SSC and equivalent examinations. Of them, 98,776 were girls and 83,353 boys.

In the nine general education boards, 1,345,678 out of 1,606,394 examinees passed the SSC examinations. 83.77pc students passed the tests with 163,845 students securing GPA-5. Of them, 74,677 GPA-5 holders are male students and 89,168 female students.

Some 82.39pc of the total male students and 85pc  of the total female students passed the SSC examinations under the nine general education boards.

In the Madrasa Education Board, a total of 226,754 students - 109,714 male and 117,040 female - out of 284,665 students passed the examinations.

Of the total 78.70pc male students and 80.57pc female students passed the examinations under the Madrasa Education Board.

Out of 226,754 passed students, some 14, 206 students secured GPA-5.

Among the GPA-5 holders in the Madrasa Education Board, there are 6,739 male students and 7,467 female students.

In the Technical Education Board, 99,721 students - 72,986 male and 26,735 female - out of total of 122,538 students passed the examinations.

On an average 81.37pc - 79.19pc male and 88.03pc female -- of the total examinees passed the examinations under the Technical Education Board, with 4,078 students securing GPA-5.

Among 4,078 GPA-5 holders, there are 1,937 male and 2,141 female students.

According to the results published by the Education Ministry, no students from 51 schools and madrasa under five education boards out of 11 boards passed the examinations.

Of them, two institutions are in Rajshahi Education Board, three in Dhaka, five in Mymensingh and 42 institutions are under Madrasa Education Board.

The number of schools and madrasa with zero results was 48 last year.

Conversely, 2,968 educational institutions achieved 100pc pass rate in this years examinations while the number was 2,354 last year.

Of those, 174 institutions are in Dhaka, 289 in Rajshahi, 98 in Cumilla, 422 in Jashore, 66 in Chattogram, 222 in Barishal, 31 in Sylhet, 77 in Dinajpur, 80 in Mymensingh while 1,089 are under Madrasa Education Board and 440 under Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB).

Jashore Education Board clinched the top spot in this years SSC examinations among the nine general boards with a pass rate of 92.33pc.

Sylhet Education Board recorded the lowest pass rate of 73.35pc.

Pass rates of other education boards are: 89.32pc in Dhaka, 89.13pc in Barishal, 82.80pc in Chattogram, 79.20pc in Cumilla, 78.40pc in Dinajpur, 92.32pc in Jashore, 89.25pc in Rajshahi, 73.35pc in Sylhet and 84.97pc in Mymensingh.
