A man was killed after being attacked by wild elephants in Mymensingh's Haluaghat upazila on Monday.

The incident took place around 3:30 am at Banai Chiringipara village under Bhubankura union.
The dead Altaf Uddin, 70, was a resident of that village.

Bhubankura Union Parishad Chairman M Suruj Ali said the farmer with his son harvested Boro paddy whole day and piled up those paddies in the middle of their field. At night, he was guarding the paddies with his son. Around 3:30, a herd of Indian wild elephants started eating paddy. Meanwhile, the elephants crushed the man when they tried to drive away the elephant.

Locals rescued Altaf Uddin in an injured state and took to the upazila health complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Haluaghat Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shariful Islam said legal action is under process in this regard.
