South Korea keen to invest in jute, leather sectors

South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Park Young-sik has expressed his countrys keen interest to invest in the jute and leather sectors of Bangladesh for mutual benefits of both the countries.

"Now South Korea is keen to develop both the countrys success in jute and leather sectors," he said, while making a courtesy call on Textile Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak at his Secretariat office on Sunday.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Nanak said the envoy praised the Bangladeshi government for the development in different sectors.

During the meeting, they discussed the progress of various development projects of Bangladeshs textiles and jute sectors.

The Korean Ambassador greeted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the formation of the government for the fourth consecutive term.

"We are encouraging Korean companies to invest in various projects of Bangladesh," he said, adding that therefore, efforts are being made to increase Korean investment in other sectors besides the jute and leather sectors.

The Ambassador sought the ministers cooperation to reduce their tariff and to extend validity of the visas to those who are working in Bangladesh. The Minister of Textiles and Jute assured the ambassador that he will try to solve these problems by discussing with the concerned ministries and departments.    —BSS
