Dear Sir
With heavy hearts, we mourn the tragic loss of two young lives, Nupur Khatun and Tanjina Akter Jhumi, who reportedly took their own lives after receiving disappointing results in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. These heartbreaking incidents from Jhenidah and Noakhali districts serve as a stark reminder of the immense pressure our students face during exam season.
Nupur, just 15, and Tanjina, 16, should have had their whole lives ahead of them. Instead, they were consumed by despair. Nupur, locked in her room, and Tanjina, in the midst of her parents absence, made the tragic decision to end their lives upon hearing of their exam results.
This heartbreaking news should not only prompt us to reflect on the mental health challenges our youth endure but also urge us to re-evaluate our education system. The relentless focus on exam results and academic performance often neglects the emotional well-being of students.
It is imperative that we, as a society, prioritize mental health support and create an environment where students feel valued beyond their academic achievements. Let us come together to provide the necessary resources and support systems to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
