Law Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday said that three- day discussions with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to amend the Bangladesh Labour Law ended successfully.
"Discussions have taken placed about 41 points to amend the Labour Law. We have listened to the ILO delegation for three days.
I have discussed each of their issues in detail. I think, the decision we are taking through such exchange of views is not only good for the stakeholders, I think this discussion will be an example in terms of international standards," the Law Minister said.
He was speaking to reporters after holding a meeting with a six-member delegation of the ILO led by its Country Director Tuomo Poutiainen at the law ministry.
Anisul said ILO has given some suggestions to amend the labour law.
Senior officials from various departments and organisations including the law and labour ministries participated in the meeting.
The Law Minister said that the ILO would like to make some suggestions regarding the amendment to the Bangladesh Labour Law, so that the law is more in line with international standards. He said, ILOs Committee of Experts has seen and read our law, and they have given some recommendations on international standards.
The minister said that the government is continuing the cooperation that the government is supposed to provide to the ILO.
That is why the exercise is being done for three days on the revision of the labour law. Here they talk about corrections in some issues. Those issues which were found to be acceptable were accepted. These are very important issues, therefore we cannot be elaborated on at this time, the Law Minister noted.
