75pc patients recovered at Ahsania Mission Drug Treatment Center

75 per cent drug addicted and mental disorder patients have been recovered and return home from Ahsania Mission Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Gazipur.  

Total 2789 patients have received treatment and rehabilitation services from here since its establishment in 2004.

Among them, 2 thousand 142 drug addicts and 647 people with mental disorder have been treated. So far the recovery rate is 75 per cent.

Among these patients, 29.8 per cent are yaba users and 33.8 per cent are cannabis users.

Dhaka Ahsania Mission Health and Wash Sector Director Iqbal Masud gave this information at a press briefing held at Gazipur Ahsania Mission Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, Rajendrapur recently, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary celebration.

Resident doctor, counselors and other officials are also present there.

Iqbal Masud said that the number of cannabis and yaba users is increasing day by day. Family awareness should be increased. It is important to get proper counseling as soon as the symptoms of drug addiction appear.

He further said "that the center provides six-month treatment for three types of patients namely: drug addicts, behavioral and mental disorders. Apart from this, clients who have completed full term treatment can take three months of treatment as review clients if they relapse later.

Those who are still healthy after receiving full-time treatment, get free accommodation, meals and counseling services from the center for a maximum of 12 days a year".

"Treatment procedures and environment are very fragile in Govt drug treatment and rehabilitation center.
 
If someone wants to establish a rehabilitation center, government from other countries donates a large amount of money and land, but this is not seen in Bangladesh.

The Director General of Narcotics Control Department changes frequently which also harms policymaking and implementation", he added.  

According to a report published by Ahsania Mission, 87.88 per cent of the 2,789 patients completed their treatment. 8.33 per cent went away without completing treatment period and 1.5 per cent of patients were transferred for various reasons and 2.29 per cent of patients are currently under treatment.

29.8 per cent of those seeking medical treatment used yaba, 33.8 per cent used marijuana, 14.9 per cent used sleeping pills, 16.3 per cent used heroin, and 12.6 per cent used alcohol. And 43.43 percent were concurrently taking multiple drugs and the rest had other mental illnesses.

Among mental disorders, schizophrenia accounted for 18.3 per cent, bipolar disorder for 14.43 per cent, depression for 18.33 per cent, OCD for 8.74 per cent, and the rest for other mental disorders.

Ahsania Mission Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Gazipur has all necessary modern facilities for the care and treatment of the drug dependents.

There are trained staffs who address the need of the clients, sufficient space for recreation, arrangement for various outdoor and indoor games, library, prayer room etc for the benefit of the clients.

The center has the capacity to provide service to 100 clients at a time.

In addition to this institution, Ahsania Mission Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, Jessore established in 2010, Ahsania Mission Women Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, Dhaka established in 2014and  Ahsania Hena Ahmed Monojotno Kendra, Munshiganj established in February 2021.

Patients and their families, in fact anyone can communicate with Ahsania Mission Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center through Dam Health App.

Talking to several patients, they acknowledged us that they are very much happy with treatment facility here. They did not get such environment in any other rehabilitation center.
