A delegation from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), headed by its President S. M. Mannan (Kochi) at meeting with Customs Commissioner of Chattogram port discussed crucial issues related to customs procedures of RMG handling and shipping.

The meeting with Mohammad Fyzur Rahmanheld on Wednesday focused on complexities and challenges surrounding customs-related services, including documentation problems and HS Code classifications.
In the meeting BGMEA President S. M. Mannan (Kochi) emphasized on the urgent need for simplifying customs-related procedures and removing hassles in services to facilitate smoother and faster handling of cargo, says a press release.

He highlighted the adverse effects of customs-related challenges on export-import activities, leading to increased business costs and unnecessary delay in business procedures, especially amidst the current global economic slowdown and reduced consumer spending on clothing.

The BGMEA President stressed the importance of helping reducing the lead times to enhance competitiveness in the global fashion market.

He said the government support and cooperation in ensuring a sustainable growth of the RMG industry is very essential for Bangladeshs RMG sector to remain competitive in the global market.

At the same time, the BGMEA President also called for exemplary punishment to those resorting to malpractice at the port house obstructing exports, harassing exporters, and damage the countrys economy.

They must be held accountable under the law. The delegation urged the customs authorities to promptly address these issues and streamline services for the RMG sector to remove operational bottlenecks and enhance efficiency.

In response, the Customs Commissioner assured the BGMEA delegation of the Customs Houses best cooperation in addressing their concerns and facilitating a conducive port operation for the industrys growth.
