A 50-year-old man allegedly
hacked his niece to death over a
land dispute at Palashbari upazila in
Gaibandha district on Saturday morning.
The
killing took place around 9am at Biramervita village under Monohorpur union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Papiya Begum, 40, daughter of Nurul Haque, and niece of the accused Dula Mia, 50.
According to locals, there was a dispute between the family members of Dula Mia and Papiya over a piece of a land. On Friday morning, Dula Mia along with his son Rabbi and other cohorts went to the disputed land to plant some trees. When Papiya and her family members resisted them, they attacked Papiya with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.
She then, succumbed to her injuries on the way to a nearby hospital, they said.
Uday Kumar, Assistant Superintendent of Police in Gaibandha, said on information police have detained one Parvin Begum for questioning and process to file a case in this regard is underway.
