Four detained with illegal fishing nets in Barishal

BARISHAL, May 18: Four persons have been detained along with illegal current nets in Hizla Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The upazila administration, Hizla Police and Fisheries Department conducted the joint operation in Kauria Bazaar and Baherchar areas of the upazila in the afternoon.
Confirming the matter, Hizla Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Mohammad Alam said that they arrested four people and seized 15,000 meters of illegal current nets from their possession.
Later on, a mobile court led by Hizla Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of the district Yasin Sadek, fined the four Tk 22,000.
They also burnt the seized nets.       
On the other hand, in Muladi Upazila, a mosquito net was seized from the Ariyal Khan River, which was later burnt down.
