At least seven business establishments were burnt in a terrible fire at Gouripur upazila in Mymensingh district on Sunday.
The incident happened around 3 am at Shyamganj Bazar of the upazila.
The victims claimed that there has been a loss of around Tk 2 crores in the fire.
According to locals, the fire originated in a cotton shop. Then the fire spread to adjacent shops instantly. At that time, local people and police tried to extinguish the fire.
Later, The fire service reached the spot about an hour after the fire broke out. Six units of Gouripur, Netrakona and Purbadhala Fire Service brought the fire under control after three hours of efforts. At that time, the flames of the fire gutted the shops.
The affected businessmen Mamunur Rashid and Abul Mia said, "We cleaned the shop well at night after seeing everything and went home. Later, after the watchman and other people shouted, we came out and saw the fire.''
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shakil Ahmed said if a complaint is made to police station, the police will investigate whether it was sabotage or something else.
