Two students killed in Feni lightning strikes

Two students were killed after being struck by lightning strikes at separate places of Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni district on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Mahadi Hasan, 18, son of Atiqur Rahman, a resident of North Kuhuma village under Radhanagar union, and Shahin Mahmud Avi, 15, son of Fazlul Karim, of South Langalmor area under Ghopal union of the upazila. Mahadi passed Dakhil examination recently and Avi was a tenth grader of a local madrasah.
According to the deceased family members, a streak of lightning struck Mahadi when he was bringing back their cows from a field. He was rescued and taken to Chhagalnaiya Upazila Health Complex where the physicians declared him dead.

Radhanagar Union Parishad (UP) chairman Mosharaf Hossain confirmed the death matter.

Meanwhile, Ghopal UP chairman Mohammad Selim said Avi was also got hit by thunderbolts when he was returning home from a field adjacent to his house. He was rescued in critical condition and taken to the upazila health complex where he was declared as dead.

Chhagalnaiya Police Station officer-in-charge Hasan Imam confirmed the deaths, adding that they have recovered the bodies and handed over to the family members upon their request.
