A big road-show will open in the USA on next Friday (24 May) in which 30 managing directors of different domestic banks, besides officials of other banks in Bangladesh will attend in a bid to attract dollar deposits in response to recent foreign exchange fluctuations.

A total of 45 bank officials are going to the USA to attend the special promotion program to increase US dollar deposits in banks through offshore accounts. This is the first time such a big gathering of Bangladeshi bank MDs will be held abroad.

According to a banking source, commercial banks are launching a special campaign to increase the flow of dollar deposits particularly through banking channels. As part of it a program related to Offshore Banking Fixed Deposit was recently organized for expatriates in a New York hotel.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Imran will be chief guest in the road-show. Bangladesh Permanent representative to the UN Muhammad Abdul Muhiths, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Kazi Sayedur Rahman, and Md Najmul Huda, Bangladesh Consulate General in New York, will be special guests on the occasion.

This gathering, aimed at exploring opportunities in offshore banking, underscores the growing interest among Bangladeshi banks in diversifying their foreign currency reserves.

As part of this, a promotional event has been organized in the country to encourage Bangladeshis living in the United States to deposit dollars through offshore banking.
