A postgraduate student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has been missing after he came out of residence five days ago.
Mahmudul Hasan Tanveer, a postgraduate student of the Department of Industrial Production Engineering (IPE) of BUET came out of his residence at Purbo Azampur of Dakkhin Khan in the capital on May 17. Since then he has been missing. He didn't go to his residence. Tanveer used to live at Shaheed Smrity Hall of BUET. He hails from Bhanga in Faridpur district.
A general diary was registered with Dakkhin Khan Police Station.
His family said they were not receiving any phone call from Tanveer over the last five days. However, Dakkhin Khan police said Tanveer left his phone at his residence at Purbo Azampur. As a result, he couldn't be tracked using the technology.
Tanveer's mother Sharmin Sultana mentioned in her GD that she has two sons and two daughters. Tanveer is the eldest among them. He came to his residence at Purbo Azampur from Shaheed Smrity Hall of BUET on May 14. At about 3:30pm on May 17, he went out of residence for hall. Then they tried to contact with him, but failed. Later, at 9:00pm, he was called again but his mobile phone was found switched off. He wore formal shirt and trousers. He is 6ft 1inch in height with bright fair complexion.
His mother said she went to the BUET's Shaheed Smrity Hall and inquired about her son to his classmates and roommates, but failed to trace him. She also went to her relatives' houses. Then she filed a GD with the police station concerned.
On Tuesday afternoon, Tanveer's father Saidur Rahman told reporters: "I live in a rented house at Purbo Azampur in Dakkhin Khan with my family. Tanveer went out of his house on May 17 last. Since then we could not establish contacts with Tanveer. Then his two phone numbers were found off at 9:00pm. Then we contacted with his classmates at the hall but could not trace his whereabouts. We did not find his mobile phone at home."
Meanwhile, Dakkhin Khan Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Sheikh Aminul Bashar claimed that Tanveer left his mobile phone at home.
"Tanveer went out of home in the afternoon on May 17. Police couldn't trace his whereabouts using the technology. We're looking for him manually. A police team will go toe BUET campus on Wednesday for inquiry," he said.
