A Dhaka court on Thursday asked police to submit probe report on July 4 in a case filed over the abduction of Awami League lawmaker from Jhenaidah-4 Anwarul Azim Anar, who was murdered by what the government says some Bangladeshi men in Kolkata.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order after accepting the first information report (FIR) submitted by police, said GRO Jalal Uddin.
Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin, daughter of Anar, on Wednesday filed the abduction case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station accusing some unidentified people.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told reporters the same day that Azim was murdered at a Kolkata flat. Those involved in the killing are all Bangladeshis.
Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar travelled to India on May 12 for medical treatment.
Two days later, he could not be located. On Wednesday morning, the Kolkata Police reported his death.
Anar was elected lawmaker in Jhenidah-4 from AL during the 2014, 2018, and 2024 elections.
