61 structures burnt in Gazipur, Mymensingh

At least 54 houses and seven shops were burnt in separate incidents in two districts - Gazipur and Mymensingh, recently.
 
GAZIPUR: At least 50 residential houses were gutted by fire that broke out at the workers colony in Kaliakoir Upazila of the district on Friday.

However, no one sustained injuries in the fire that erupted in Telirchala area of Mouchak in Kaliakoir upazila at around 1:15 pm.

Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service Station, said on information four units of Kaliakoir and Konabari Fire Service Stations went to the scene and brought the blaze under control at around 2:15 pm.

The extent of damage caused by the fire will be known after investigation, he said.

Residents of the colony said that Sarwar Hossain and Abu Sufian had rented land from the locals and built houses and rented those to people of various professions including garment workers.

MYMENSINGH: Four houses and seven shops were gutted by fire in separate incidents in Gafargaon and Gouripur upazilas of the district in two days.

Four houses were burnt in Gafargaon Upazila on Monday night.

The incident took place in Patlashi Village under Niguar Union of the upazila at around 9 pm.

The fire originated from an electrical short circuit at a house of one Salam Bepari and soon engulfed the nearby houses.
 
Later on, locals brought the fire under control after one hour of attempt.

Meanwhile, four houses were completely gutted by the fire.

Gafargaon Fire Service Station Officer Ramprasad Pal said on information, they went to the scene but locals had already doused the fire before they have reached.

Earlier, at least seven shops were burnt in Gouripur Upazila on Sunday.

The incident occurred at Shyamganj Bazar of the upazila at around 3 am.

According to locals, the fire originated in a cotton shop at early hours. Then the fire spread to adjacent shops instantly. At that time, local people and police tried to extinguish the fire.

Later on, the Fire Service reached the scene about an hour after the fire broke out. Six units of Gouripur, Netrakona and Purbadhala Fire Service brought the fire under control after three hours of efforts.  At that time, the flames of the fire gutted the shops.

The victims claimed that there has been a loss of around Tk 2 crores due to the fire.

Gouripur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shakil Ahmed said that if a complaint is made to the police station, police will investigate whether it was sabotage or something else.
