Boat carrying 60 sinks in Mongla, many feared missing

A boat, carrying 50-60 passengers, capsized in Bagerhat's Mongla river on Sunday morning due to overload. 

Some managed to swim ashore but many of them are still missing.
It was learnt that a boat with 50-60 passengers capsized at Mongla ghat as it was carrying more than capacity.

After the incident, members of river police, fire service and coast guard are conducting search operations in the river to find out missing passengers.

Nishat Tamanna, Mongla upazila nirbahi officer, said, "A boat capsized in the river due to carrying additional passengers. Efforts have been going on to locate the missing passengers"

"CCTV footage of municipality is being reviewed in this regard."

Meanwhile, there has been a gloomy weather in the skies over Bagerhat due to the effect of cyclone 'Remal' since morning.
