Man sentenced to death for killing ex-wife

A court in Chandpur sentenced a man to death on the charge of killing his former wife at Hajiganj upazila in 2017.

Chandpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Judge Sahedul Karim handed down the order on Sunday.
The convict was Hazrat Ali, 30, a resident of Kirtankhola village in the upazila.

The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, in default, he will have to suffer seven years more in jail.

Advocate Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan, public prosecutor of the court, confirmed the matter.

According to the prosecution, Hazrat Ali slaughtered his ex-wife Mitu on July 23, 2017, one year after their divorce.

A case was filed by the victim's mother Rabeya Begum against Hazrat Ali with Hajiganj Police Station on July 24.

Police later submitted a chargesheet against him to the court on July 18, 2018.
