Two women allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in two districts - Netrakona and Gaibandha, on Friday.
NETRAKONA: A woman reportedly committed suicide after jumping under a train in Purbadhala Upazila of the district on Friday noon.
The incident took place on the Jaria-Mymensingh railway track in Digjan area of the upazila at around 1:45 pm.
The deceased was identified as Umme Habiba, 35, wife of Shahjahan Mia, a resident of Koilati Westpara area under Agia Union in the upazila.
According to locals and the deceaseds family members, Habiba went to Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex in the morning. After receiving treatment from there, she went to the railway track, and was talking with someone over mobile phone sitting on the side of the railway track until the Mymensingh-bound local train arrived. When the train approached, she jumped in front of the moving train. She died on the spot.
Purbadhala Railway Station Master Jahirul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
SADULLAPUR, GAIBANDHA: A woman reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Sadullapur Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident took place in Chakshalaipur Village under Jamalpur Union of the upazila in the morning.
Deceased Rezia Bewa, 55, son of late Baccha Mia, was a resident of the area.
Local sources said Rezia had a dispute with her son Anisur Rahman over family issues.
Following this, she hanged herself from the ceiling of a straw-room owned by one Syed Ali next to the house in the morning.
Being informed, police recovered the body at around 12 pm and sent it to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Sadullapur Police Station Inspector (Inspector) Raju Kamal confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
