Cyclone Remal: Elderly man dies on way to shelter centre in Satkhira

An elderly man died of stroke while he was going to a shelter centre at Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira district on Sunday night during a storm caused by cyclone 'Remal'.

The incident happened around 8pm at Gabura union in the upazila. 

The deceased was identified as Shawkat Morol, 65, a resident of Napitkhali village under Gabura union of the upazila.

Masudul Alam, chairman of Gabura Union Parishad, said Shawkat suddenly fell on the ground of the road while he was heading to a shelter centre at night. He then died on the spot.

On the other hand, nearly one lakh people took shelter in cyclone shelters until midnight on Sunday (May 26).
However, many have started returning to their homes on Monday morning.
