Asstt presiding officer dies after falling sick at polling centre

An assistant presiding officer died after falling sick while performing duty at a polling centre in Habiganj Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.

The assistant presiding officer was Md Emdadul Haque, a Sub-Assistant Engineer at LGED office in Habiganj.

He was appointed as the assistant presiding officer of Umednagar Municipal High School Center in the city in the third phase of upazila elections on Wednesday.

Faridul Islam, Executive Engineer at Habiganj LGED, said Emdadul suddenly felt a pain in his chest while discharging his duty at the centre at around 11am.  He was immediately taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.

His body has been taken to his village home in Pabna. 

He left behind wife and a son.
