Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to visit tropical cyclone Remal-hit areas in Kalapara of Patuakhali today.
PMs Deputy Press Secretary MM Emrul Kayas said on Wednesday that the Prime Minister will leave for Patuakhali by a helicopter at 11am today.
During her visit, Sheikh Hasina will address a public meeting at Government Mozahar Bishwas College ground at afternoon. She will also handover relief materials to more than 2,000 people in the meeting.
The district administration has completed all the preparations for the Prime Ministers visit to the Remal-affected areas in Patuakhali.
According to Awami League (AL) central office, a high level delegation of the ruling party will also visit Kalapara in Patuakhali to stand by the cyclone affected people.
The delegation will visit the entire cyclone affected area in the southern part of the country including Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Barguna, Khulna and Satkhira.
As part of the initiative, they started visiting Kalapara from Tuesday under the leadership of its AL Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim.
Among others, AL Organising Secretary Afzal Hossain, International Affairs secretary Shammi Ahmed, central committee member Anisur Rahman, Shwechchasebak League President Gazi Mejbaul Hossain Sachchu, Acting General Secretary Khairul Hasan Kewel and organizing secretary Arifur Rahman Titu are in the delegation.
Regarding the visit, Bahauddin Nasim told media that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is concerned about the cyclone-affected people. She is always in touch with the party leaders and administration to know about the latest condition of the people.
"The PM will visit Patuakhali on Thursday. The party leaders have been working to provide necessary assistance to the affected people following the directives of the PM. The party leaders and activists have been working relentlessly to stand by the people," he said.
According to the district administration, as many as 3,27,000 people have so far been affected in the district while some 235 houses were completely and 1,865 others were partially destroyed.
They said the agricultural sector suffered losses worth over Tk 260 million, while the fishery sectors losses are estimated to be over Tk 280 million.
