Shahadat Hossain, younger brother of Awami League general secretary Obaidul
Quader, lost his security deposits after failing to get an adequate number of votes in the third phase of upazila
election held on Wednesday (May 29).
He got only 4,610 votes, though he needs to get 11,284 votes.
Assistant Returning Officer and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Anwar Hossain Patwari has announced the final results of 71 centres at the auditorium of Noakhali's Companiganj Upazila Parishad on Wednesday night.
According to the result, Mohammad Golam Sharif Chowdhury Pipul has been elected as chairman of the upazila unofficially securing 48,022 votes. And his nearest competitor Mizanur Rahman Badol got 18,678 votes.
Shahadat Hossain is on the third position getting 4,610 votes.
Anwar Hossain Patwari said that TK 1 lakh of Shahadat Hossain and Omar Ali, which they have submitted to the Election Commission for chairman post, will be confiscated.
Earlier, the third phase of the sixth upazila parishad elections in 87 upazilas held on Wednesday.
