UP member held with hemp in Jamalpur

Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested a Union Parishad (UP) member along with hemp at Melandah upazila in Jamalpur district early Friday.

Police arrested him from his house at Sultankhali village in the upazila at 12:50 am.

The arrested man is Md Bellal Sheikh, 45, a resident in the area. He is a UP member of Durmut union.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted a raid in the area and arrested the UP member from his house. Police recovered 40 kilograms of hemp from his possession, said Kazi Shahnewaz Imon, officer in-charge of the police's Detective Branch in Jamalpur.

A case was filed against Bellal with the Melandah Police Station under Narcotics Control Act , the police official added.
