Assistant presiding officer dies at polling centre

HABIGANJ, May 31: An assistant presiding officer died after falling sick while performing duty at a polling centre in Sadar Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased assistant presiding officer was Md Emdadul Haque, a sub-assistant Engineer at LGED Office in Habiganj.
He was appointed as the assistant presiding officer of Umednagar Municipal High School Centre in the district town in the third phase of upazila parishad election on Wednesday.

Executive Engineer at Habiganj LGED Faridul Islam said Emdadul suddenly felt a pain in his chest while discharging his duty at the centre at around 11 am.

He was immediately taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

His body has been taken to his village home in Pabna.

He left behind his wife and a son to mourn his death.
