Four killed, five injured in road mishaps

Four people have been killed and at least five others injured in separate road accidents in three districts - Narayanganj, Tangail and Barishal, in recent times.

NARAYANGANJ: Two people were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in the district in three days.

The helper of a drum truck was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle at Siddhirganj in the city on Wednesday.

The accident took place on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in front of Al-Amin Garments Factory in Siddhirganj.

The deceased was identified as Juwel Sarker, 36.

It was known that an unidentified vehicle hit a drum truck from behind in front of Al-Amin Garments Factory, which left helper of truck Juwel dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

However, the law enforcers have seized the drum truck and arrested its driver Rubel Hawlader, 32.

Shimrail Highway Police In-Charge AKM Sharfuddin confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

Meanwhile, a patient was killed and another injured as an ambulance hit a roadside island after losing its control over the steering in Sonargaon Upazila of the district on Monday morning.

The accident took place in Sonakhali area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway under the upazila at around 9:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Golam Mostafa, 35, son of late Meher Ali Mistri of Laxmidari area in Satkhira District Town. He worked as a helper of a vehicle and lived in Chauddagram Upazila of Cumilla District.

Police and local sources said an ambulance carrying Golam Mostafa was heading towards Dhaka from Chauddagram in Cumilla in the morning.

On the way, the ambulance hit a roadside island after losing its control over the steering in Sonakhali area at around 9:30 am, which left Golam Mostafa dead on the spot and the ambulance driver injured.

The identity of the injured could not be known immediately.

Earlier, Golam Mostafa was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chauddagram of Cumilla after being injured in a road accident.

He was then referred to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka for better treatment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanchpur Highway Police Station (PS) Rezaul Haque confirmed the incident.
 
MADHUPUR, TANGAIL: The helper of a pickup van was killed and the driver injured in a road accident in Madhupur Upazila of the district at dawn on Wednesday.

The accident took place in Boma Bus Stand area of the upazila at around 4:45 am.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The injured person is Ershad Ali, son of Dipu Haider, a resident of Sariakandi Upazila of Bogura District.

Quoting locals, Madhupur Fire Service Station Officer Hemayel Kabir said a goods-laden pickup van was coming towards Madhupur from Tangail Town at dawn.

On the way, the pickup van hit a truck standing in Boma Bus Stand area from behind after losing its control over the steering.

The helper of the pickup van died on the spot and the driver was critically injured at that time.
On information, the Fire Service personnel rushed in, recovered the body of the deceased and rescued the injured pickup van driver.

The injured was then admitted to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex, the Fire Service official added.

BARISHAL: A passenger of an auto-van was killed and three others were injured after being hit by a private car in Wazirpur Upazila of the district recently.

The accident took place on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in front of Sonar Bangla High School in Natun Shikarpur area under the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Johan Bepari alias Jona, 55, son of late Nirmal Bepari, a resident of Dhamsar Village in the upazila.

The injured persons are: driver of the auto-van A Jalil Dhali, 50, and passengers Shamim Gomasta, 50, and Sumon Molla, 25. All of the three are residents of Mugakathi Village under Bamrail Union in the upazila.

Police and local sources said an auto-van carrying four three passengers was heading towards Ichaldi Bus Stand from Dhamsar Bazar.

On the way, a Barishal-bound private car from Dhaka hit the auto-van in front of Sonar Bangla High School gate in Shikarpur area, which left its driver and three passengers seriously injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and rushed them to Wazirpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Johan Bepari dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceaseds family members.

Of the injured, auto-van driver Jalil Dhali was, later, shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

However, the law enforcers have seized the private car and arrested its driver Md Sharif Mia, 26.

Arrested Sharif Mia is the son of late Md Sabuj Mia of Noyabazar area in Netrakona District.

Wazirpur PS OC Md Jafar Ahmed confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken if any written complaint is received from the deceaseds family members in this regard.
