Teen commits suicide being barred to buy smartphone

A teenage boy committed suicide reportedly after being barred to buy a smartphone at Lalpur upazila in Natore district on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Moin Ali, 13, son of Mamun Ali, a resident of Bhatapara village under Ishurdi union of the upazila.
According to the deceased family members, Moin had been insisting on getting a smartphone for several days. However, they were unable to fulfill his request due to the family's financial constraints. This situation had left Moin in a state of constant disappointment. At one stage on Friday afternoon, he committed suicide in his room.

Lalpur Police Station officer-in-charge Nasim Ahmed confirmed the incident and said that on information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Legal procedures regarding the incident were currently underway, added the OC.
