Water level in Kaptai Lake rises

Two units of power plant start operation

RANGAMATI, June 1: The water level of the Kaptai Lake in Kaptai Upazila of the district has increased with rainfall.

The electricity production of the Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant has also increased by a bit as two units out of total five units of the power plant are running well.    

Production of four units of the plant has been suspended due to water level fall in the lake. One unit was running somehow.

Now two units have been re-opened, said ATM Abdujjaher, manager of the plant, on Thursday noon.
These two units have been running for the last three days. On Thursday a total of 55 megawatt (MW) of electricity was produced including 30mw by the Unit-1 and remaining 25mw by the Unit-2.

Till Thursday at 2pm there was 78.55 means sea level (MSL) in the lake against usual 76.40MSL.

The water capacity of the lake is 109-foot MSL.   

The total electricity produced by the plant is transmitted to the national grid.
