Three Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of Islamic University (IU) unit were expelled for one year (two semester) over ragging undressed at midnight at the Lalon Shah hall.
An office notice was issued on Sunday, signed by IU acting registrar HM Ali Hasan, in this regard.
Meanwhile, the authority warned two students in the incident that they will be permanently expelled if they engage in such activities in future.
The expelled are- Mudassir Khan Kafi of Physical Education and Sports Science department, Sagar Pramanik and Md Uzzal of Islamic History and Culture department. All of them are under the 2021-22 academic year.
Meanwhile, Nasim Ahmed Masum, IU BCL unit Education and Study-circle secretary, of Economics department under 2018-19 academic year, and Misno Al Asnawi of Information and Communication Technology department under 2022-23 academic year have been warned for their involvement in the ragging. All of them are followers of the university wing of BCL general secretary Nasim Ahmed Joy.
IU Law Administrator Professor Dr Anisur Rahman said, ''A show-cause notice has been given to the accused. Within the next seven working days, the accused will be given an opportunity for self-defense. Then the matter will go to the syndicate meeting, after, final decision will be taken.''
Earlier, on February 7 night, the victim was called to room no 136 of Lalon Shah Hall and tortured throughout the night. The victim alleged to the authority for torture in various ways, including hitting with a rod, making undressed and arrogance.
Later, probe bodies were formed by the hall provost and the university authority. The probe body found out the truth of the ragging through undressing.
