Man killed 'by elder brother' over land dispute

A man was killed by elder brother over a land dispute at Rajoir upazila in Madaripur district on Sunday.

The incident happened at Songkordi village under Bodorpasa union in the upazila at around 7:00pm. 

The deceased was identified as Lablu Bayati, 45, son of late Israfil Bayati, a resident of the area. 

It was learnt that there had been a long standing dispute between Lablu Bayati and his elder brother Babul Bayati over a land dispute. 
Following this, two brothers locked in an altercation on Sunday evening. At one stage of altercation, Babul Bayati beat his younger brother Lablu with stick, leaving Lablu critically injured. 

Locals rescued him and took him to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared him dead. 

Parul Begum, wife of Babul Bayati, detained by police in a connection with this incident, said Md Asaduzzaman Howlader, officer in-charge of Rajoir Police Station.   

Legal actions were under process in this regard, he added.
