Four killed, six injured in road mishaps

Four people were killed and at least six others injured in separate road accidents in two districts - Moulvibazar and Gazipur, on Sunday.

KULAURA, MOULVIBAZAR: Two people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Kulaura Upazila of the district on Sunday.

A man was killed and five others were injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the upazila in the evening.

The accident took place in Achhurighat area of the upazila.

The identities of the deceased and the injured could not be known immediately.

It was known that a covered van and an auto-rickshaw were collided head-on in Achhurighat area in the evening, which left one dead on the spot and five passengers of the auto-rickshaw injured.

On information, a team from Kulaura Fire Service Station led by its leader Md Ferdous recovered the body of the deceased and rescued the injured. The injured were then admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

However, the law enforcers have seized both the covered van and the auto-rickshaw, but the covered van driver managed to flee the scene.

Additional Superintend of Police in Kulaura Circle Dipankar Ghosh confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was killed after a tree fell on him during a storm in the upazila on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred in Mission area under Brammanbazar Union of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Matin, 32, a resident of Mirzapur Village in the upazila. He was a businessman by profession.

Brahmanbazar Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Mamdud Hossain said a tree branch fell on Matin during a storm while he was going to his business enterprise from the house riding on a motorcycle, which left him critically injured.

Locals then rescued him and took to Muslim Aid Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Matin dead, the UP chairman added.

SREEPUR, GAZIPUR: Two people were killed and another was injured after a pickup van hit a mini-truck in Sreepur Upazila of the district early Sunday.

The accident took place in Joina Bazar U-turn area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway of the upazila at around 4 am.

The deceased were identified as truck driver Chanchal Roy, 30, son of Natesh Roy, hailed from Alipur Village in Sunamganj District; and Ripon, 35, son of Siddique Hawlader, hailed from Barishal District.

Sreepur Fire Service Station Officer Belal Ahmed said that a Mymensingh-bound pickup from Dhaka hit a mini-truck from behind in Joina Bazar U-turn area at around 4 am, leaving one dead on the spot and two others injured.

Later on, the injured were rescued and taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where another succumbed to his injuries.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies.

Mauna Highway Police Station Official Sheikh Mahbub Morshed confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
