Nine drown in seven districts

Eight minor children including three girls and a young man drowned in separate incidents in seven districts - Bhola, Coxs Bazar, Pirojpur, Netrakona, Gaibandha, Sirajganj and Chandpur, in two days.
 
BHOLA: Two minor boys drowned in a pond in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Yasin, 7, son of Sujon, and Omar, 6, residents of Char Jangla area under Bhola Municipality.

According to locals, the two boys went to bathe in a pond next to their house in the afternoon. At that time, they drowned in the water of the pond.

Later on, their family members rescued them and rushed to Bhola Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the duo dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhola Model Police Station (PS) Monir Hossain Mia confirmed the incident.

PEKUA, COXS BAZAR: A minor child drowned in a lake in Pekua Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Ariyan, 2, son of Ward No. 5 Member Abu Umar of the upazila.

Local and the deceaseds family sources said Ariyan slipped into a pond next to the house in the afternoon while he was playing on its bank.

Later on, the family members found his body floating on water and recovered it from the pond.

KAWKHALI, PIROJPUR: A minor child drowned in a canal in Kawkhali Upazila of the district on Sunday noon.

The incident took place in Languli Village under Kawkhali Sadar Union in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Md Rashed Khan, 4, son of Md Sohag Khan, a resident of Khan Bari in the village.

According to locals and the deceaseds family members, Rashed was playing on the bank of a canal next to the house at noon before the incident happened.

At one stage, he slipped into the canal and went missing into the water.

After sensing his absence, the family members started looking for him, and then, found his unconscious body floating on the water.

Later on, Rashed was rescued from the canal and taken to Kawkhali Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared him dead.

NETRAKONA: A young man drowned in a lake in Durgapur Upazila of the district on Sunday.

The incident took place in Bijoypur area under Kullagarah Union of the upazila at noon.

The deceased was identified as Sumon Mia, 21, son of Shariful Islam, hailed from Gargaria Village under Sreepur Upazila in Gazipur District. He was a student of a local madrasa in Gazipur.

It was known that Sumon Mia along with his family members came to visit a tourist spot in Durgapur Upazila. At noon, he along with some others went down to a lake in Bijoypur area to take bath, and drowned there.

Later on, he was rescued after about half an hour of search and taken to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Sub-Inspector of Durgapur PS Md Atikuzzaman confirmed the incident.

SADULLAPUR, GAIBANDHA: A minor boy drowned in a canal in Sadullapur Upazila of the district on Sunday.

The incident took place in Taraf Bajit Village under Jamalpur Union of the upazila in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Abdullah Sheikh, 2, son of Moksedul Sheikh of Shreekala Pashchimpara Village under the same union. He along with his family members lived in a rented house in Sadullapur.
 
Local sources said Abdullah fell in a canal near the rented house in the morning while his family members were unaware of it, and drowned there.

Later on, the family members recovered the body from the canal.

Jamalpur Union Parishad Member Yasin Ali confirmed the incident.

SIRAJGANJ: Two minor sisters drowned in a pond in Tarash Upazila of the district on Saturday noon.

The deceased were identified as Yafi, 8, and her younger sister Isha, 6, daughters of Hazrat Ali of Kohit Village under Tarash Municipality.

Robbar Ali, councillor of Tarash Municipality, said the duo went missing on Saturday noon while they were playing on the bank of a pond next to the house. After it passed long time, the family members started searching for them. Later on, they found the floating bodies of the sisters in the pond.

The girls were then rescued and taken to Tarash Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared duo dead.

Sirazum Munira, doctor of emergency department at Tarash Upazila Health Complex, said the children had died before being taken to the hospital.

CHANDPUR: A minor child drowned in a pond in Haziganj Upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Fatima Aktar, 5, daughter of Md Nesar Ahmed Molla, a resident of Jakhani Village under Barkulwest Union in the upazila.

It was known that Fatima drowned in a pond near their house while she was playing along with other children in the afternoon.

Later on, the family members rescued her and took to Haziganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to her family as no complaint was lodged in this regard.

Haziganj PS OC Md Abdur Rashid confirmed the incident.
