The government reinstated office hour from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm from Sunday to Thursday in each week instead of existing office hours 9:00 am to 4:00 pm after around two years.

The new office hours will come into effect from first office day after the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, according to the decision of the Cabinet meeting held on Monday at the Prime Ministers Tejgaon Office in Dhaka with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

According to the decision, all government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous offices will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in five days from Sunday to Thursday every week.

While briefing after the meeting at the Secretariat, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain said that there will also be a break of 30 minutes for prayers and lunch from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.

At present, the employees of government institutions work from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. This schedule has been running since 2022, when the government reduced office hours by one hour in a bid to save electricity and using the day light.
