FARIDPUR, June 4: A court in the district on Sunday sentenced three people including a woman to life-term imprisonment in a case filed over drugs smuggling in Sadar Upazila in 2019.
Faridpur Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Shihabul Islam handed down the verdict in presence of the convicts.
The condemned convicts are: Ringki Begum, a resident of Faridpur District Town; Mosharraf Hossain, 52, hails from Satkhira; and Jahid Hossain Sumon, 26, from Jashore District.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, and in default, they will have to suffer three more months in jail.
Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Nawab Ali Mrtidha confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) challenged the trio in front of Faridpur Medical College Hospital in Sadar Upazila in 2019. While searching, the RAB members recovered 1,124 bottles of phensedyl from their possession.
Later on, the RAB lodged a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Faridpur Kotwali Model Police Station against them.
Police then submitted the charge-sheet to the court.
After hearing the witnesses and examining the case evidences, the court pronounced the verdict on Sunday.
